Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2016 US presidential election and the inauguration of President Donald Trump in January 2017 opened a new chapter in US-Mexican relations. Over the past two years the North American Free Trade Agreement, which had set the foundations for the institutionalisation of relations between Canada, the US and Mexico in North America, was called into question and renegotiated. Immigration and drugs trafficking, two contentious issues that have historically troubled the bilateral relationship, reached new heights of tension. This presentation will offer an overview of US-Mexico relations under the challenging new conditions of the Trump presidency.<\/p>\n

Short Bio<\/strong><\/p>\n

M\u00f3nica SERRANO\u00a0is Professor of International Relations at El Colegio de M\u00e9xico where she coordinated the North American Programme. She has worked on the international relations of Latin America and North America, with particular reference to international institutions, security, human rights, transnational crime and civil-military relations.
